Are Athletes…Heroes?

Yesterday I was involved in an interesting conversation about heroes.  It had a particular aspect that specifically caught my attention.  We discussed how we often consider athletes “heroes”, but should they be given this accolade.   It is true that athletes are often seen as role models to many different people who aspire to be like them, but are they heroes?

Terry Fox is easily my favorite hero.  Coincidentally, he happens to be an athlete as well.  Terry Fox has raised cancer awareness to people all over Canada before and after his death.  He is seen below.

Should athletes be considered heroes?  Why or why not?

Is Tiger Woods Really A Sex Addict?

After announcing his return to golf a few weeks ago and participating in his first interview on Sunday night, I ask the question is Tiger Woods really a sex addict?  According to the media and whoever else has their two cents to throw in, he most certainly is.  Tiger checked into rehab at Pine Grove Behavioural Health and Addiction Services for 45 days. I wonder is he healed from his sexual addiction or was he just pressured into the program to regain his image, wife and half of his fortune.  If you seen his press conference after his infidelities was exposed, you will know that he does not think he did anything wrong.  During his ESPN interview he would not discuss the details of his rehabilitation at Pine Grove. Its simple the only thing he regrets is getting married and then worse getting caught.  He should have taken a page out of Shaquille O’Neal’s book and paid the women off or like Hugh Hefner and get glorified for it.  Yeah for sure he cheated on his wife with multiple women including a porn star but nobody knows why he cheated. You never know he made have been unhappy with his wife Elin Nordengren. Imagine a billionaire athlete, the best in his sport all time who is always on the road where there is always beautiful, educated women always around and throwing themselves at him every night.  Now ask yourself this question in a society where sex is everywhere (on your TV, in magazines even while you are walking down the street): if you had a chance to have sexual intercourse with whoever you want whenever you want, would you?  The majority of the male population in my opinion would without a doubt.  Furthermore sex is described as part of a healthy living and driven by biological factors.  What makes a man love a man and another man make love to many women as he can find.

I am not condoling Tigers’ actions because he should not have cheated but he is not a sex addict.  He is as normal as any another professional athlete (Alex Rodriguez), politician (Bill Clinton), Hollywood celebrity (Colin Farrell, David Letterman) who engage in these behaviors.  The only difference is that he has the opportunities to act out his fantasies when he wants with multiple women. If he wasn’t so good, famous and heavily invested into, nobody would really care.  In a few months all this will be forgotten and old news after he wins at Augusta and The Masters. Just like Kobe Bryant he will be loved by all (the media which dictates how we perceive things) and on top of the world once again as time progresses.  What is your opinion on Tiger Wood’s situation? Please don’t mention Dr. Drew in his conversation (lol jokes).

Hey NHL…Get your freaking act together!!!

So here’s the spark that fired up the whole discussion; Alexander Ovechkin, gets a two game suspension as well as a $232,000 fine for his hit on Brian Campbell.  However, there are many different opinions on the severity of the suspension. The truth is that if Campbell hadn’t gotten hurt, there wouldn’t have been an issue to discuss in the first place, but because he did, many analysts are making a huge fuss about the hit. Also, many are comparing the hit to Maxim Lapierre’s hit on Scott Nichol. A lot of people are saying that it was a similar hit and that Ovechkin’s status in the NHL helped him get preferential treatment and thus only 2 games and a fine. Honestly, I personally do not think that both hits were at all similar; Lapierre’s hit was done purposely and immaturely by a cowardly player with a cheap-shot reputation. As for Ovechkin, he should have gotten a maximum of a 5 minute major and nothing more. But the major issue at hand is the NHL and its way of dealing with the hits issue. The NHL has no idea what it is doing when it comes to suspensions and this whole hitting issue. I mean look at what happened to Marc Savard; Matt Cook gets no suspension for purposely giving him a concussion and Ovechkin gets 2 games for a totally legal hit? This is complete BS. The NHL needs to get its act together! How can obvious hits with the intention to hurt be over looked and ignored and legal hits that are just part of the game be sanctioned at a ridiculous rate? How are we supposed to sell the sport when the league is partly responsible for making the players look like Barbarians?

Stop wars, nerd!

So you’re a nerd. You, like all other dorky singles, are a fan of star wars. You hate episode 1 because it’s the worst movie George Lucas ever made. By the way this hilarious 70 min long video is detailing point by point why:

But you probably already know that video, don’t you?
The point is, you like all other nerd like funny t-shirts. And you don’t like bad things. Cancer is bad. Likewise war.
So you thought, hey let’s go to this (male only) party where I’m gonna wear this funny “Stop Wars” t-shirt, so if there one single chance that a chick is hanging out there, she’ll look out at me”

Dude, that’s lame. If you really are against war, first you’re an idealistic hippie, and secondly, WTF IS THAT T-SHIRT ABOUT, IT’s NOT EVEN FUNNY!
I don’t know what do you think, but to my opinion, you must a f***** shamless moronic retard if you thought that would get you chick. But eh, you got my attention, and I had a good laugh at you!

And the chick? she’s looking at me,  because I got one of these:

Epic Beard Man

I’m sure you must have heard (or not) about this very violent viral video going around the internets. Millions of people have viewed the original video. Animations, remixes and reinacrements of the footage have bursted out from everywhere.

This video is very NSFW, so here’s the…
SITUATION:
Old white dude on a bus
Young Black dude on a bus
Both talking shit to each other
White dude decides he doesn’t want to get into a fight, and leaves
Black dude follows him, pushes white guy
and proceeds to get his ass kicked by a 67- yr old man.

People are arguing about this not just because it’s a racial thing. But it also relates to the fact that people in our society are the most craziest and stressed out people around. So it’s not just a race thing, it’s an everybody’s-fucking-crazy thing. Public transportation is already not the best thing around and when you enforce and jam these angry people in a tight place like that, things will  get ugly. I’m sure most of you have  witnessed an argument or a fight while taking the bus or metro, and you’re curious to know how the problem got resolved.

What do you think of Epic Beard Man? Is he in the right? Is he wrong?

Ban violence from all sports!

After what happened with Garrett Klotz, minor league player of the Philadelphia Phantoms, and now Marc Savard of the Boston Bruins, many individuals are supporting stricter sanctions regarding  violence in sports.  Some even believe that criminal charges should be imposed such as in the case  of Jonathan Roy, the goalie(which also happened to be Patrick Roy’s son) who severely beat up a member of an opposing team.

Over the years there have been many sports related injuries, i think that the real issue here is not so much the “legal” violence in sports, but more the illegal ones such as in the case of Jonathan Roy. Many have also brought up the point of stricter sanctions in the NHL since younger players look up to the major league players for inspiration and direction.

My opinion is that i believe that violence such as in the case of Jonathan Roy should be regulated but this doesn’t mean that we should ban violence from sports. I think we all like seeing a fight during a hockey game simply because it is part of the game. It’s simple, if you can’t fight, don’t.

Ban violence from all sports… yeah right!

Canadian Olympian has his dreams shattered.

The completion of the Olympic games on February 28th marked Canada’s
best performance ever in the winter Olympics.
Canada also finished with the most gold medals of any country in any
winter Olympic games.  Of all the success stories that
played out during these two weeks, a not so happy one seems to stick out to me.

Brian McKeever is currently competing in the Paralympics games.  He is
a competitor of the 50km Cross Country ski race.
He is legally blind, however, he made the Canadian Men’s team even
with his disability.  Unfortunately, the International Federation
rules only permit four skiers to compete in this race per country.  Brian,
being the fifth skier, was then cut from the race
and not permitted to compete.

Shouldn’t there be special circumstances where a team can allow an additional skier if they have more Olympians that are strong enough to compete than the rules allow?  Should Brian have been a special circumstance because of his situation?

I think so.  After working so hard to make an Olympic team to find out
that the rules don’t allow you to compete is
very difficult to take.

Ten Top Reasons Why I Hate The Yankees

10. Yankee; why would you name a team that, strangely enough the term means a person of New England heritage, last time I check New York is in New York not New England, wait till Red Sox fans heard about it lol.

9.  Polyester Jerseys, why can’t they wear cotton like the rest of the league.

8.  Bandwagon jumpers, every year it seems their fan base gets larger as the season progresses, dam those Mets, just because your team doesn’t get to the playoffs doesn’t mean you have to jump ship.

7. Yankee Cap Insignia, is it me or does every one own a Yankee hat, of all the 4 major sports leagues (nfl, nhl, mlb, nba) and all 122 teams why do so many people own a Yankee baseball fitted, Why?

6.  George Steinbreiner, “The Boss” what can I say I don’t know why I don’t like the guy, but this man has a monopoly on the sport.

5.  Highest Payroll, Forget highest payroll in baseball, the Yankee’s have the highest payroll in all of professional sports ($209 million in 2008), while a team like Tampa Bay payroll is $43 million, hmm I wonder why they win so much.

4.  27 World Series Pennant/40 American League Pennants, in 1999 the Yankees became the winingest sports franchise, alright very impressive however with only 4 playoff spots in the AL and virtually no competition except recently (Red Sox) of course you’ll win every year or so it seems.  Put Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, Chris Paul and Dwight Howard on the same team and see what happens…

3.  New Yankee Stadium, even in these times of Economic Recession, Mr. Steinbreiner was able to put up a new 1.5 billion dollar field, whoa, making it the 2nd most expense stadium on the planet.

2.  Rodriguez, Texiera, Sabathia and Jeter, Largest sports contract in history; Rodriguez 10 years 275 million, Jeter 10 years 189 million, Texiera 8 years 180 million and Sabathia 7 years 161 million???  What do baseball players really do compare to other athletes?

1. Naturally I hate baseball, so naturally I love to hate the Yankees lol, indeed the only sport I never bother playing growing up, imagine watching it, might as well shoot myself.

The Oscar Hangover

Great movies come out every so often, and more often than not the greater ones get the recognition they deserve. But now that the nominations are in for the upcoming Academy Awards (The Oscars), I’m disappointed to see that a great movie hasn’t been nominated. Which one you ask?…The Hangover of course; this movie has all the necessary elements that make it a great movie plus one extra one that makes it just exceptional; it’s the only movie since I can remember that makes you laugh from beginning to end, literally, and for some odd reason it has gotten zero recognition from the academy. Making someone laugh is something that is taken for granted these days. It’s an extraordinary achievement, and being able to keep it up for an entire movie is something just exceptional. Hence, I ask myself what’s the deal with the Academy Awards? It seems like the only categories of movies that get nominated are of the same exact genre every freaking year. What am I getting at?…Unless the movies being considered are a serious drama or based on some best-seller novel or a big budget movie, it has practically NO CHANCE of getting nominated. This really frustrates me, because there are so many good movies out there that do not get the deserving recognition. I mean, making a funny movie is an art just like making an “artsy” film or some touching movie, and it seems like the Academy doesn’t see it that way. I’m not being biased, because it’s an actual fact that the Best Picture prize has never been given to a film noir, science fiction or an animated film; and rarely are horror, fantasy, comedy and westerns recognized. So, from the looks of it, The Hangover and many other comedies in the future will remain unrecognized and undeserving useless the committee has some biased interest in it or whatever it is they look for to nominate a movie.

Can religions coexist?

coexist

No. That’s bullshit, there is intrinsically no reason for religion coexistence. Why? Because they are designed to be fought for. Religions, whether Judaism, Christianity or Islam, are a tool of control, a way to maintain public order and give some power for the lucky bastards at the top of the pyramid.

Call me an heretic, but I believe that religions should be removed for the face of the earth. Don’t get me wrong, I’m an sort of a skeptical agnostic, and I don’t mind people having a spiritual life, I don’t believe in pure materialism, there must but some rooftop cosmic crap out there that might answer some questions, but do we have to celebrate it through the big 3? Do you have to bother me with all your stupid superstitious stories and give me all the moral crap? No, so if there must be one way to coexist, it’s mind your own business and keep it to your home, that’s the way to go!
