After what happened with Garrett Klotz, minor league player of the Philadelphia Phantoms, and now Marc Savard of the Boston Bruins, many individuals are supporting stricter sanctions regarding violence in sports. Some even believe that criminal charges should be imposed such as in the case of Jonathan Roy, the goalie(which also happened to be Patrick Roy’s son) who severely beat up a member of an opposing team.
Over the years there have been many sports related injuries, i think that the real issue here is not so much the “legal” violence in sports, but more the illegal ones such as in the case of Jonathan Roy. Many have also brought up the point of stricter sanctions in the NHL since younger players look up to the major league players for inspiration and direction.
My opinion is that i believe that violence such as in the case of Jonathan Roy should be regulated but this doesn’t mean that we should ban violence from sports. I think we all like seeing a fight during a hockey game simply because it is part of the game. It’s simple, if you can’t fight, don’t.
Ban violence from all sports… yeah right!
